CapEx Construction News: Construction output rose in third quarter but remains below pre-pandemic levels

The volume of construction output increased 7.5 per cent in the third quarter compared to the second quarter, but is down 1.4 per cent on an annual basis, according to seasonally adjusted figures published by the Central Statistics Office (CSO).

Activity in the sector remains lower than pre-pandemic levels, with production volume in the third quarter down 9.8 per cent compared to the third quarter of 2019.

This is also the case in the residential and non-residential categories where activity levels remain lower than the third quarter of 2019, however activity levels in the civil engineering increased by 6.7 per cent in the third quarter compared to the same period in 2019.

The residential sector showed the largest quarterly increase with a rise of 23.9 per cent in the seasonally adjusted volume index, while the non-residential sector increased by 5.8 per cent. The civil engineering sector increased by 4.7 per cent.

Annually, the civil engineering sector saw a volume increase of 20.6 per cent in the seasonally adjusted index. The residential sector also increased annually by 7.7 per cent while the non-residential sector decreased by 6.5 per cent.

The seasonally adjusted value index for construction increased by 5.4 per cent on a quarterly basis and by 6 per cent on an annual basis.
